Roobarb and Custard Set To Go Digital With Box Of Frogs!BRANDORA Editorial Staff - September 2014 |
Box of Frogs Media has announced an exciting collaboration with A&B TV and Bulldog Licensing that will see it produce a series of interactive appbooks based on legendary animated duo Roobarb and Custard.
Roobarb, the goofy green dog, and his pink feline foe Custard were created by Grange Calvery, with Richard Briers providing the narration for the iconic 1970s cartoon. Only one series was originally produced, but the trademark wobbly animation, zany storylines and fiendishly catchy theme tune made the show into a cult classic, winning a legion of devoted followers young and old in the 70s and 80s. The duo returned in 2005 in Roobarb and Custard Too, which remains one of the top performing shows on Channel 5’s kids block Milkshake.

Box of Frogs will launch three new appbooks that bring together original script, animations and interactive narratives within the new digital format. The first book will launch in late October 2014 to help celebrate Roobarb and Custard’s 40th anniversary celebrations this year. “Box of Frogs are delighted to be a part of such a high profile birthday!” says CEO Ben Simpson. “We are incredibly excited to be working on such an iconic brand, I watched and loved Roobarb and Custard as a boy and now can’t wait to bring the digital stories to a new generation of fans.” |
The new deal adds to the considerable presence Bulldog Licensing has built for the brand in the licensing sector. Existing partners include BCI for apparel, Flametree for calendars, Fred and Ginger for pet accessories, Brazier & Co for plush, and Museums and Galleries for greetings cards.
Comments Vicky Hill of Bulldog Licensing: “Taking Roobarb and Custard into the digital sector exemplifies the creativity, flexibility and ongoing potential of this classic brand and I’m sure these appbooks will be a big hit.”
