Sindy is a British fashion icon first launched in 1963, which has since enchanted generations of young girls – becoming the biggest selling toy in Britain by the late 60s. Sindy later took on American rival Barbie toe-to-toe and won going on to enjoy massive sales throughout the 70s, 80s and 90s with over 150,000,000 dolls sold worldwide to date, and a large adult fanbase for the Sindy brand. The doll is a fashion phenomenon, with Sindy's classical and younger positioning attracting considerable attention from the sector – high street fashion chain Top Shop has featured the foot-high doyenne of chic in their blogs and top footwear brand Irregular Choice has used Sindy in its Lookbook. |
US based Robert Tonner has tapped into the enduring popularity of Sindy with an exquisite recreation of her 1972 Trendy Girl collection, which is one of the most sought after of Sindy's original ranges of dolls, and has developed both original and modern clothing styles to accompany the release.
Robert Tonner is far from the only licensee to recognise the licensing potential of Sindy. Other partners include the Art Group for greetings and Poeticgem for apparel with a wide range of additional product categories in negotiation including toiletries/perfumes and high end stationery products.
“There is a lot of excitement surrounding these new dolls. They look amazing and are a true collector’s piece, with Harrods representing the perfect retail environment for their launch,” says Bulldog MD Rob Corney.
